Why We Are Concerned

The Inter-Tidal Preserve at Little Corona Del Mar, this view is at low tide.

Children collecting specimens and playing in the polluted run-off from Bucks Gully. This low flow run-off is the result of people watering their lawns and washing their cars and is therefore highly polluted and should not be flowing into a reserve.

 

California mussels (Mytilus californianus)

   

Green sea anemone (Anthopleura xanthogrammica)

   

Green sea anemone (Anthopleura xanthogrammica) partially closed with shell pieces attached to hold in moisture.

   

Sandcastle worm (Phragmatopoma californica) abundant in mid-tide zone.

   

Surf grass (Phyllospadix scouleri) found in the low tide zone.

   


Ochre sea star (Pisaster ochraceus) found at Crystal Cove State Park.
Missing from the Intertidal of Little Corona del Mar Reserve.

   

Purple sea urchin (Strongylocentrotus purpuratus) numerous only in the
low tide zone at Little Corona del Mar Reserve.
